On Thursday, March 8th, we left Quartzsite for Mesa, AZ. It was a short driving day to ViewPoint RV Park. Lots of sunshine, 53* when we left and cloudless blue sky. I've heard people who winter here say that day after day of cloudless blue sky with sunshine gets to be too much. I seriously doubt it! We stopped in Buckeye, AZfor a coffe break. In 2000, the population of this agricultural town was 6K. In 2010, the population grew 638% to over 50K! It is becoming another bedroom town outside of Phoenix. On the road again, we passed fields of alfalfa, wheat, cotton and clover. As we got closer to Phoenix, we saw old DC 10s, 737s with Southwest Airline paint and other planes apparently in storage at the Goodyear Airfield. Lockheed Martin had buildings at the airport. We noticed that several churches we located in the malls: Palm Village and Vineyard Church to name a couple. Traffic had been easy and we arrived around 2 PM.
ViewPoint RV, Golf and Tennis Park is HUGE. It's a good thing we brought our bicyles. The pool, hot tubs and laundry are several blocks away. Nine and eighteen hole golf courses, tennis, pickleball, shuffleboard and more. There is an orange or grapefruit tree on every site. Every day has at least one activity or more. We rode our bikes around many of the little streets to get our bearings. In the evening, we went to the "Goodtime Singers" concert in the ballroom. The place was packed. They sang show tunes, including ones from "The Sound of Music", "South Pacific" and Oklahoma. There was a sing along at intermission and the singers acted out the tunes they were singing. Sonny headed for the hot tub before the grand finale. I joined him later and we watched the full moon rise.

Friday night, I spent an hour writing up my journal notes but the computer ate them so I'll try again. Friday morning, we rode our bikes around the park. There are many places for sale since it is near the end of the season. We sat in the sun and visited with our next door neighbors from Ohio. Later in the afternoon, we drove out to Saguaro Lake for the twilight cruise on the Salt River aboard this boat. It was windy in the bay but once we got going, the chop settled down. The tour was a 90 minute, 10 mile loop through the river canyons. Many kinds of ducks, eagles, great blues, mountain goats, beautiful rock formations and then, the sunset behind the hills.
Entertainment on the tour was provided by a steel drum player.

There is a small cross at the top of this bluff to mark the spot where fearless youth have tried to dive into the lake. They actually do the diving much closer to the shore but the cross is high above.
